Gardens

Beechgrove, Broughton
Beechgrove is possibly Broughton's best known garden.  Travelling towards Edinburgh it is on your left just before leaving the village and immediately after the turning to Biggar.  The house is reputed to be one of the oldest in the village and folklore has it that the provisions of the house were requisitioned by the Highland Army as it passed through the village on its way south in November 1745.

In its present form this garden has been established for over forty years and is still cared for by its creator, Tom Shearer, who regularly plants out about 5,000 bedding plants to create the highly colourful display during July and August.

The garden at Beechgrove is open to the public at all times and with an "honesty box" at the entrance gate you have the opportunity to contribute to local and national charities.
